Maltese fans are known for their fervent support for popular European clubs as the increasing number of supporters' branches in our islands shows. Mention the likes of Man. United, Juventus, Liverpool, Milan, Inter and Bayern Munich and you will come across hundreds of local fans claiming allegiance to these great teams.

Leeds United, another household name in English football, have long established their presence in Malta. Hilary Attard, widely regarded as one of the most passionate Leeds fans in Malta, has recently returned from an exceptional visit to Elland Road.

Attard is well known among Malta's Leeds United supporters for his commitment to the club. He makes it a point to go and watch Leeds play at least twice each season. However, his latest visit was something special.

In appreciation of his outstanding loyalty and support, Attard was invited by Leeds United FC to attend a special dinner in honour of the 100 greatest Leeds players of all time.

Most of those nominated were present for the occasion, giving Attard the opportunity to meet several Leeds United greats, past and present. Peter Lorimer, Norman Hunter, Paul Reaney, Mick Jones, Allan Clarke, Nigel Martyn, Eddie Gray, Jack Charlton, John Charles, Alan Smith, Harry Kewell... and various others.

Attard counts former Leeds United FC chairman Peter Ridsdale as well as Ridsdale's predecessor, Leslie Silver, as two of his many Leeds acquaintances. In fact, it was Ridsdale who introduced Attard to the Lord and Lady Mayoress of Leeds City, Bryan and Celine North.

This meeting was followed up with an invitation for lunch at the Leeds Civic Hall where Malta's 'Leeds United FC ambassador' was presented with a memento in recognition of his continued connection with the city of Leeds.
