Saturday's game between Gozo Tornadoes and Pembroke Torpedoes was not as close as many expected.

Gozo hit eight runs in the first inning, highlighted by the fine play of Shaun Chircop, on their way to a 12-4 victory. Gozo are first in the standings after winning their last six games of the season. They will now play the winner of Sunday's play-off between Mellieha Northenders and Gzira Mustangs in the championship series.

The Northenders and the Mustangs already met last Sunday in a game which was only a formality as the result had no bearing on the final standings. Mellieha won 15-12 on the back of a typically strong performance from Keith Bartolo.

Final standings: Gozo 8-4; Mellieha Northenders 8-4; Gzira Mustangs 5-7; Pembroke Torpedoes 3-9.

Next fixture: (Sunday at Marsa) 1 p.m. Gzira vs Mellieha.
