Champions Hibernians scored the fastest goal in the history of local women's football on their way to a 12-0 thrashing of bottom side Rabat to move three points clear at the top of league.

Melita consolidated their third placing in the standings with a 2-0 win over a disappointing Raiders.

The Paolites were in rampant form on Sunday, hitting 12 goals past a helpless Rabat side to increase their season's tally to 43 goals in seven matches for an impressive average of six goals per match.

As the scoreline clearly indicates, the game was a no-contest with the champions finding the Rabat net seven times in the opening 45 minutes. They took just 20 seconds to breach the opponents' defence through Tereza Zammit.

Dorianne Theuma converted an 11th minute penalty before Zammit made it 3-0 on 21 minutes.

Theuma also hit her second of the match with a low shot seven minutes later before Ylenia Carabott scored her first goal in Hibs colours on the half-hour. Kathleen Saliba and Sabrina Mifsud ensured that the champions went in for the break 7-0 up.

Despite effecting five substitutions and having Zammit sent off for retaliation, the Paolites were still a cut above their opponents after the change of ends, adding five more goals through Dionne Tonna (49th), Sarah Caruana (52nd), Theuma (63rd), Patricia Borg (65th) and Chantalle Grech (79th).

In the other match played at Pace Grasso, Raiders failed to repeat the same battling qualities shown against Birkirkara, going down to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Melita.

The match produced little goalscoring chances. Raiders threatened first on 15 minutes when Marcia Zammit's cross found Graziella Vella who shot just over. But it was Melita who broke the stalemate on 29 minutes. Maria Coppola served Roberta Girard who beat Farrugia with a low shot.

Five minutes later, Melita doubled their lead when Girard's cross was inadvertantly deviated by Raiders defender Rosie Xerri into her own net.

After the break, Raiders' reaction failed to arrive and they also ended up with ten players after Amanda Atkins was sent off for a second booking.
