Hibernians FC have been given 10 tomna of land from the government for the development of new facilities.

These facilities include a bocci court, a medical centre and a multi-purpose stadium that includes futsal, swimming pool and other facilities.

The club is among 13 organisations being given public land to develop their sports facilities in a legal notice moved in Parliament recently.

The clubs will be getting 16 stretches of land which have a total commercial value of around €2 million.

The land was passed over to Hibs during a ceremony attended by Parliamentary Secretaries Clyde Puli and Jason Azzopardi.

Dr Azzopardi noted that the government could have leased the land commercially for €50,000 a year but instead it was passed on to the club for an annual lease of €900.

The money lost, he said, was an investment in young people, sports and social fibre.
