Hibernians FC coach Robert Gatt was following doctors' orders yesterday and stayed in hospital where he is being treated for a deep gash in his forehead.

The incident happened on Saturday during the UEFA Intertoto Cup match against Finland's AC Allianssi at the Hibs Ground.

Gatt's first reaction to an Adrian Mifsud goal in the opening half was to jump out of his dug-out with delight when he accidentally hit his head with the canopy's edge.

He was rushed to hospital in an ambulance, which was on stand-by, and required several stitches to heal his wound. However, Gatt's condition was not serious. He was doing well yesterday and could be released from hospital today or tomorrow.

Hibs drew 1-1 with AC Allianssi, after missing a late penalty. They extended their unbeaten home record in Euro competitions to four matches in three years. However, the Finns went through 2-1 on aggregate.

The Paolites will now take a short break before resuming pre-season training. Assistant coach Michael Woods led the team on Saturday after Gatt's mishap.
