The Parliamentary Secretary for local councils, Jose' Herrera, insisted this morning that Floriana local council does not have the authority to stop the holding of the Isle of MTV concert in Floriana.
Speaking to timesofmalta.com he said the council had a right to make its views known, but this was a national event which the council could not stop. However the council's concerns would be discussed.
Floriana deputy mayor Matthew Paris in comments to the Times of Malta this morning said the council should not issue permits for the holding of Isle of MTV on the granaries once the governemnt 'abandoned' Floriana's New Year's Eve celebrations.
The Isle of MTV is held on the Floriana granaries at the request of the organisers because of the backdrop of Floriana church.
The concert will be held on June 25.
