The Animal Welfare Directorate is looking for a new home for Hannah, a bitch which was surgically operated upon this morning to remove a tin that got stuck between her teeth.

Welfare officer Janice Chetcuti  said that Hannah was found in Ghajnsielem by Gozo SPCA volunteers who patrol the streets daily to help animals who might be in distress.

Hannah had tried to eat something from a thrown away tin but the tin got stuck between her teeth. This left her in agonising pain and made it impossible for her to swallow.

Two officers from the Animal Welfare Directorate went to Gozo for Hannah early this morning. They were met by the Gozo SPCA staff who showed them where Hannuah usually is at that time of the day.

The frightened dog was caught and taken the Centru San Frangisk, where the tin was surgically removed from its mouth, and various stitches were applied to her tongue.

Ms Chetcuti said that although it was still early to get their hopes up , the staff at the centre were hopeful that Hannah would be back on her way to good health in no time.

“We want to believe that she'll make it through and thus a good home for her would be needed.”

Anyone interested in helping Hannah should call the directorate on 2292 4132 or 2292 4113 Mondays to Fridays between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m.
