Three cheers for the article ‘The ‘gift’ of stuttering’. It was a most positive article on stuttering and I wish the worldwide media would publish more of them.

What was mentioned in the article about schoolchildren who stutter, getting physically sick on the morning of having to give an oral presentation in school, is absolutely right on target.

Sadly, I think it is the norm.

I would like to say to both young people and adults who stutter in Malta that the website of the Stuttering Foundation (www.stutteringhelp.org) offers free resources such as brochures and streaming videos specifically for young people.

The website of this not-for-profit charity also has a 36-page book called Trouble at Recess, which is a guide for young people on handling bullying and teasing. The site has help for people who stutter of all ages.

To me, the ‘gift of stuttering’ is received through the many hardships and trials that make a person who stutter more compassionate towards others facing challenges – as well as make the person feel grateful for the positive attributes that he or she does have.

The article has the best headline of any article on stuttering that I have ever read in my lifetime as a person who stutters.
