The government, instead of penalising the taxpayer to reduce the deficit, which is of its own making, should consider introducing and enforcing hefty penalties in this undisciplined culture to boost its coffers.

There are several ways to do this, particularly by raising penalties and make them stiff for the so many contraventions that take place. Perhaps these may drastically tame the horrendous driving, illegal hunting, illegal dumping, illegal construction works, public misbehaviour, bad language in public, bullying, drug trafficking, tax evasion and corruption, to name just a few.

The list may be endless but by studying the prevailing situation and through an iron fist, the government can control the deficit and perhaps instil some discipline into this laissez-faire culture, which, unfortunately, has been allowed to become part of our normal living.
