The Vikings Sailing Club (VSC) recently organised the annual Hector's Trophy dinghy regatta, an event held in memory of the late Hector Borg Carbott, founder of the club.

There were 14 boats and 23 participants, all club recruits as this is the only regatta restricted to VSC members. Some of this year's participants were foreigners who had just joined the club and young students from SkolaSajf.

All dinghies participated under a handicap. The regatta started off with a long distance race from the club to Sliema Ferries and back.

The light north-westerly winds freshened up later on as the Mirror 10s rounded the windward mark. First dinghy in was Orion, helmed by Ernest German.

The remaining three races were held the following day.

Some of the newcomers produced surprising results despite the challenging weather conditions.

In fact, the north-westerly winds varied from Force Four to Five at times.

As in previous years, the regatta was sponsored by Pat Valenzia, daughter of Hector Borg Carbott, and Gauci Borda Co. Ltd.

The next race is the FIAT Regatta on September 19. More information may be obtained from the club's website - www.vikingsailing.org.
