This introduction to health and safety offers delegates the opportunity to analyse the type of accidents and occupational hazards they encounter at their place of work, whether it is a highly industrial work place or an office environment. Practical solutions and precautions are discussed in depth with the aim of eliminating risks and accident occurrences.

With the recent local legislation based on EU occupational H&S laws indicating clearly the distribution of responsibilities in such matters, it is imperative that the both managers and shop floor workers join forces to eliminate the risks.

Lewis Spiteri, DBA (Henley), MIM, has a vast experience and knowledge in health and safety, and has attended H&S courses run by Du Pont (International). Besides being a safety auditor, he had instituted the safety committees, and written the first ever Safety Code at the Malta Shipyards, where he was chairman of the Safety Committee for more than ten years.

Delegates will learn how to assess a risk at their work place, prevent accidents from happening and how to carry out an investigation when accidents do happen. They will also learn the proper way to handle and move objects safely without hurting their backs.

Even office workers will benefit from this course as they will learn the science of ergonomics of office furniture, the hazards at the office as well as their solutions.

The Health and Safety Introductory Programme is being held at the MISCO Training Centre, Valletta, on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 2.30 to 5.30 p.m.

Practical Public Relations

Today's media professionals are becoming more discerning and demanding in terms of the quality of the material they handle.

PR consultants need a variety of skills to be able to handle their roles effectively, not only to ensure that their clients are given the widest possible exposure on all media, but also to produce material that the media organisations can use.

Practical Public Relations, being held at the MISCO Training Centre from February 14-17 from 4.30-9 p.m., takes participants through the various skills they are expected to have a command of.

Starting with how to put up and moderate a press conference, there will be units on press release writing, putting together a press pack, interviewing skills and feature writing.

For more information on these two courses contact M'Louise Xuereb at MISCO on tel: 2122-0303 or 2123-9683, fax 2124-7512 or 2125-1083 or e-mail: mlxuereb@miscomalta.com.
