LATE LAST month, Grimaldi Group Naples reorganised its Salerno-Valencia service to link up with its Malta-Salerno route.
The service between Salerno and Valencia now operates three times a week leaving Valencia on Tuesdays at 2 p.m. and arriving in Salerno on Thursdays 10 a.m.; on Thursdays at 8 p.m., arriving in Salerno on Saturdays at 4 p.m.; and on Saturdays at midnight, arriving in Salerno on Mondays at 8 p.m.
Two RoRo vessels, the Eurocargo Valencia and the Setubal Express, will operate on this route for cargo only. However, up to 12 drivers can be accommodated in basic quarters.
The Valencia service links up with the Malta service operated by the Eurostar Salerno, a RoRo/passenger vessel, delivering cargo to Malta every Saturday at 3 p.m.
This vessel leaves Salerno on Fridays at midnight and leaves Valletta for the return journey on Sundays at 5 p.m., arriving at Salerno on Mondays at 7 a.m.
The Eurostar Salerno has a capacity of 950 passengers and up to 160 cars. There are 89 cabins, 64 Pullman-type seats, two cabins with facilities for disabled persons and two suites.
State-of-the-art public areas include a restaurant and lounge bar, a TV room, slot machines and a sun deck with a bar. The vessel has a service speed of 22.5 knots with a capacity of 2,230 linear meters of cargo of various types including trailers, containers, flatbed trailers, RoRo cargo and cars.
Livorno, Tunis and Palermo are now also on the route to Valletta on a fixed day weekly basis.
Currently, Grimaldi Group Naples operates a fleet of modern ships offering a complete range of liner services on routes connecting the main ports in Italy, Spain, Malta, Tunisia and France, creating a veritable network of 'Highways of the Sea' in the Mediterranean.
