The 10th women's football league got underway last weekend at the Pace Grasso ground. Melita and Mosta chalked up easy wins, both scoring five times against Rabat Ajax and Raiders respectively.

Rabat could not have aspired for a better start after surprising Melita with an eighth-minute Janice Zahra goal.

It took Melita 10 minutes to shrug off that upset when new signing Alyssa Rivero made it one-all.

Daniela Micallef and Rivero had good opportunities to score again for Melita but Rabat held sway.

Melita were more effective after the interval. Michelle Zammit made it 2-1 and then Rivero fired an unstoppable drive past Christine Galea in the Rabat goal.

Galea did well to hold out efforts from Maria Azzopardi and Jacqui Ellul Soler but could do nothing in the 72nd minute to prevent Lisa Mizzi from scoring after the latter was put through by Azzopardi.

Azzopardi rounded a 5-1 win for Melita with an 82nd-minute penalty.

Mosta's victory was fully merited as the 5-0 scoreline clearly shows.

They were the better team with Raiders offering very little resistance for most of the match.

Mosta scored twice in the space of a few minutes midway through the opening half thanks to Alison Debono and Marisa Deguara.

Jane Coates added two other goals in the second half with young substitute Yanika Fenech hitting the fifth for Mosta 12 minutes from time.
