Premier League club Ħamrun Spartans will hold a triangular tournament on Friday at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.

The tournament, sponsored by Express Trailers, will feature the participation of the host club, Qormi and Sliema Wanderers.

The three teams will play 45-minute matches with the opening fixture, between Sliema and Qormi, starting at 7.30 p.m. The losers play Ħamrun in the second match.

Ħamrun have already met Qormi and Sliema Wanderers in this season’s BOV Premier League.

The Spartans had the better of Qormi 3-1 in their opening match but lost to Sliema by the same scoreline in their last league outing on Sunday.

With no Premier League matches scheduled for the next two weeks due to Malta’s Euro 2012 qualifier away to Georgia on October 8, the coaches of Ħamrun, Sliema and Qormi will view Friday’s tournament as an opportunity to keep their players in trim in terms of match fitness.

It also offers them the chance to give a run-out to the fringe players who have been out of the first team so far this season.

As part of their build-up to the new season, Ħamrun organised the Powerade Cup. They were also involved in a friendly against Valletta that was sponsored by Mare Blu Tuna Farms Limited.

Steve D’Amato’s team won the Powerade Cup after beating Floriana on penalties in the final but went down 2-1 to Valletta in the Mare Blu Cup.
