The beautiful stretch of country near Hagar Qim is a sacred zone, a unique place in Malta, rich in history and nature, full of fauna and flora in a quiet environment and classified as a world heritage site.
Some time ago this area was refurbished but it seems this was not done seriously, as can be seen now.
First, the electricity cable which was installed in the rubble wall was supposed to be for lighting purposes. It seems that the idea was abandoned and hundreds of liri were lost. Another case is the boundary wall around the temples area, parts of which have collapsed. The net at Hagar Qim is not properly secured to the ground and part of it is bent. There was no need for the gate at Lapsi Road - four large stones would have been enough.
Let us rejoice that this area is going to be developed but let us hope there will be supervision and accountability and those who do the job will shoulder the responsibility to do a good one.
