The GWU said today it was surprised by Finance Minister Tonio Fenech's remarks yesterday that Enemalta would be restructured and some works may be redeployed or will become redundant.

In a statement, the union said it could understand how the minister did not know, or was pretending not to know, that the reorganisation of several sections of Enemalta had been underway for three years. An agreement on the reorganisation of those sections had been reached with the GWU and some sections were actually found to be undermanned, the union said.

The union also said that it expected the minister to hold talks with it first before going public. It warned that it would not accept any imposition at the corporation.
