The General Workers’ Union will be raising the Air Malta situation during an International Transport Workers' Federation conference it is currently taking part in, general secretary Tony Zarb said this morning.

Addressing a section of Air Malta employees at Luqa, Mr Zarb reiterated his union’s priority of working to save jobs.

“Your jobs are at stake.

“Our first priority is to save jobs and we will be working for this but need your continuous support.”

He said:

“We know what we are doing. This is a national issue.”

Mr Zarb referred to blogs on newspapers and said that those who were trying to make fun of the union should speak to the airline’s employees to see how worried they were.

Mr Zarb expressed solidarity with the Air Malta employees and said the union was not behind, but in front of them.

He claimed yesterday that the airline was making an annual loss of some €50 million, including €12 million in summer.
