The General Workers’ Union has no position on the citizenship scheme.

General Secretary Tony Zarb, contacted by the Times of Malta yesterday said: “We have no position on the scheme.

“We are listening to what people are saying about it, both in Malta and abroad and we will discuss it internally.”

He said that just because one union came out with a position, his did not need to follow suit.

Mr Zarb was referring to the UHM, which voiced concerns two days ago over the scheme and the bad publicity Malta is getting.

The government and the opposition started talks yesterday with a view to achieving consensus on the rules of the scheme, while a number of associations also voiced their concern.
