Arriva and the General Workers' Union will be meeting next week to discuss drivers' collective agreement.

The meeting comes at Arriva's invitation after it received a letter from the GWU this morning giving it a 48-hour ultimatum to return to the negotiating table to discuss an improved financial package for workers.

The union said that unless Arriva returned to negotiations, it would be free to register an industrial dispute and take the actions it deemed suitable to defend Arriva employees.

The GWU appealed to Arriva to understand its position unless it wanted to face serious repercussions.

Arriva said in a statement that it has always been willing to sit at the discussions table with the GWU as well as others, and reiterates its open door policy and willingness to discuss.

The union said that this morning, it ordered workers gathered near the Sarria Church in Floriana waiting in the sun for the changeover to go to the Arriva Depot in Floriana.

Following this intervention, the company provided the workers with an alternative waiting site where they could be shielded from the sun and wait in an acceptable temperature.
