The Gozo Youth Orchestra within the Gozo Youth Wind Band and Orchestra gave a concert at the Don Bosco Oratory on March 30 to mark its fifth anniversary. The orchestra is made up of 50 Gozitan youngsters who, after having pursued their musical studies individually, meet regularly as a group to prepare an exciting and varied repertoire to be performed in concerts throughout the year.

A packed hall was entertained to an appealing programme, include themes from Richard Strauss's Also sprach Zarathustra, a selection from Andrew Lloyd Webber's musicals, the soundtrack of Pirates of the Caribbean, Chicago and Gladiator, and film music by John Williams. The orchestra was conducted by its founder and music director, Joseph Grech. Patrons were also regaled with a spectacle of light effects that complemented the colourful repertoire and were hosted to a reception after the concert.

This event was held as part of the Gozo Attractions Incentive Scheme by the Gozo Ministry in conjunction with the Ministry of Finance through the National Lotteries Good Causes Fund as main sponsors. Further support was provided by the Gozo Cultural Council within the Ministry for Gozo.
