Charlie Borg , a health assistant in the men’s ward at Gozo General Hospital, won the first Employee of the Year award on September 10.

The event, which took place at the hospital’s garden, was organised by the hospital administration in collaboration with the Gozo Ministry.

Mr Borg was presented with the award by Gozo Minister Giovanna Debono, who praised the initiative and expressed hope the award would become an annual event.

Adjudicating board chairman Dr Martin Cutajar said Mr Borg carried out his duties with great care and honesty. But what made Mr Borg stand out was that through his words and deeds he managed to deliver a message of hope to patients and bring harmony and union among his colleagues.

The other employees nominated for the award were presented with commemorative certificates. Enter-tainment was provided by the Island Brass Band and singer Teddy Zammit, who was accompanied by guitarist Joseph Costa.
