I am currently carrying out research into the pastel portrait of Governor William Dobbie executed by British artist Eric Kennington in 1942. This portrait was commissioned by The Studio art magazine with the intention of giving every family in Malta a printed copy in recognition of their bravery in withstanding the Axis onslaught.

While I have established that many copies of this portrait were distributed amongst British military officials in the UK in 1942 and 1943 I have found no evidence that any copies were distributed in Malta so I am appealing to readers to contact me if they have any recollections of having seen or received any copies of this portrait.

The original portrait was donated to our National War Museum and is now under the care of Heritage Malta.

I can be contacted in Malta on 2143 2071 before June 27 or via e-mail at grech@cua.edu.
