Please do not be confused by my surname, I am a 100 per cent Maltese, born and bred in Malta.

I refer to the letter written by Joseph Pace (Lucky To Live In Malta, June 4). I fully agree with his comments and state that we in Malta do not realise how well off we are, taking into account all the free services the government provides us with.

Although we do not have any natural resources, thanks to both governments past and present, whatever the colour, we have the following benefits: allowance for the disabled, unemployment benefit, free University and stipends, free medical care and medicines, homes for the elderly and so on.

Regretfully, we are always grumbling, always wanting more and never thinking where the money is coming from for all this provision. One of our biggest problems is that some people do not use their funds sensibly.
