The government and the Opposition this evening agreed to put off a parliamentary debate on a legal notice on the procedure to be followed in appeals from government decisions on the award of public contracts.

The decision was taken after talks which involved Finance Minister Tonio fenech, Opposition deputy leader Anglu Farrugia and MPs Evarist Bartolo and David Agius.

Dr Farrugia told parliament this evening that the two sides saw basis for agreement on the issue.

In its motion, presented yesterday, the Opposition said the motion contained a number of mistakes.

Furthermore, in terms of the legal notice, the Water Services Corporation and Enemalta could still continue to publish contracts without reference to the Contracts Department. This meant that recommendations made by the Auditor General when he examined the BWSC case were being ignored.
