The government this afternoon reiterated its call to the Opposition to mention one country in the European Union where fuel cost as little as it said it should cost in Malta.

Its statement came after the Opposition this morning issued another statement in which it said that the price of diesel in Poland was 94c and that of petrol, 92c. In its statement, the Opposition quoted official European Union statistics.

But in its reply, the government said that the information given by the Opposition was wrong because, according to European Commission data (here), the price of both petrol and diesel in Poland was €1.02 per litre.

Reacting, the PN said the prime minister, instead of explaining why the Maltese were paying high prices for fuel, had sought to attack the source of information energy.eu. This site, the PN said, enjoyed an international reputation and was a point of reference in the energy sector. It updated its list of prices every day.

Even if one was to believe the prices quoted by the prime minister, they still showed how the Maltese were being robbed because prices in Poland were still substantially lower than in Malta.
