Former US amateur champion Matt Kuchar booked his place at next week's US Open with a sparkling display in qualifying.

Kuchar, who fired a four-under-par 68 in the morning, returned a 67 in the afternoon to earn his fifth US Open appearance.

Eighty-three players were already exempt for the US Open before this week and a further 64 places were decided in 11 qualifiers on Monday.

The greatest interest focused in New Jersey where teenage prodigy Michelle Wie failed in her bid to become the first woman to qualify for the US Open.
