The EkoSkola committee of St Benedict's College, Tarxien, recently held the school's first Ecofest focusing on climate change.

The programme kicked off with an eco-treasure hunt held in the school grounds, followed by a vox pop on how school stakeholders view climate change and what actions they are taking to combat this global problem.

Three speakers were invited to talk on different aspects related to the environment.

Paul Pace's interactive presentation focused on the top 10 issues harming the environment while Gino Schiavone's interactive presentation focused on how people can engage in physical activity even when sedentary.

These talks were interspersed with environmental songs presented by the school choir. The choir also sang the school's original song, Flick Off, which aims to make people aware of the need to switch off lights and electrical appliances when they are not being used.

Other activities included a dance and an original environmental play called Mawra sa Kemmuna. There was also a green fashion show presented by teachers.

Nature Trust (Malta) president Vince Attard presented certificates to the EkoSkola committee for their work during this scholastic year.

The programme ended with sports activities intended to encourage students to be active instead of watching television or spending hours on the computer.
