Godfrey Farrugia plans to return to Parliament in three weeks’ time after successfully undergoing prostate cancer surgery in London.

Speaking to the Times of Malta barely 24 hours after his operation, Dr Farrugia said he was feeling “good”. A former health minister and current Labour Party Whip, Dr Farrugia underwent surgery that lasted from 5pm to 8.30pm on Tuesday.

“Considering it’s some 24 hours after a major operation, I feel very well. The operation went well. What needed to be done – a radical prostatectomy – has been done,” the 55-year-old medical doctor said over the phone after he was moved from the high dependency unit to a ward.

Dr Farrugia said that he now needs three weeks of post-operative care but if all goes as planned he should be discharged today and continue to be followed up as an outpatient.
