Global Capital has embarked on a structured staff training programme, which includes the adoption of an 'open learning' approach and international certified programmes linked to National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs).

In the interim, the company is also moving towards international certified programmes linked to NVQs to secure an accurate measurement of the training investment in line with international standards.

Open learning is a non-traditional way of delivering training typified by web-based training which offers countless career and personal development opportunities. It also includes audio, videos and interactive workshops which provide unrestricted availability to all participants.

"HR management and development is crucial to success. At Global Capital, we understand the important value of continuously developing resources. Following the appointment of Anton Callus as head of HR, we have embarked on a structured staff training and development programme to maximise the potential of the individuals making up our organisation, and to assist us in reaching business objectives," says Nicholas Portelli, chief executive officer of Global Capital plc.

"Open learning is a flexible, personal and effective approach to developing HR capital. Feedback by members of staff has been positive and encouraging. This augurs well for the training programme, which is planned to take place this year," says Mr Callus.

"Following a company-wide training programme, we have asked randomly selected members of staff to re-design the company's performance appraisal form in a more unique and personalised style. Global Capital has adopted this bottom-up approach for training and development, while performance appraisal implementation remains top-down with objectives set by management."

These innovative training and appraisal approaches will enhance and further equip the company to provide its present and potential client base with a one-stop service point coupled with exceptional customer care in all areas, which include financial management, fund advisory, life and health insurance, insurance broking, and property.
