A Musico-Literary evening was recently held at Our Lady of Loreto church in Ghajnsielem to mark the parish's 150th anniversary.

Organised by the parish community, and held under the patronage of Gozo Minister Giovanna Debono, the evening opened with speeches delivered by Lorietta Buttigieg and archpriest Canon Joseph Zerafa.

Soprano Rita Dimech sang Varvaro's Ave Maria, Bizet's Agnus Dei and De Cesare's Salve Regina, while JoAnne Debrincat and Joeph Sultana recited the poem Tislima ta' Ghajnsielem by Fr Accursius Xerri. Bass Pio Dalli, accompanied by the Lauretana Choir, interpreted Nazzareno Refalo's Graduale. Tenor Andrew Sapiano, accompanied by the Lauretana Choir, performed Refalo's Offertory.

The Lauretana Choir sang the Preghiera alla Madonna di Loreto by G. Giumarra and Francis Sultana read his poem Ghanjet il-150.

Tenor Andrew Sapiano and Pio Dalli sang Paolo Nani's Tantum Ergo, and the orchestra, conducted by Frankie Debono, performed the Intermezzo by L. Abela Scolaro.

The parish choir director Lelio Spiteri made a speech for the occasion.

Also present were Speaker Anton Tabone, Gozitan MPs Frederick Azzopardi and Justyne Caruana, mayor Francis Cauchi and local councillors, and Nadur archpriest Mgr Salv Muscat and members of the collegiate chapter and clergy.
