Stephane Ruffier has revealed he has cut short his holiday amid the possibility he could be called out to South Africa to replace injured France goalkeeper Cedric Carrasso.

Carrasso, who pulled a thigh muscle in training on Monday, is currently undergoing medical tests and reports suggest it is unlikely the Bordeaux goalkeeper, third choice behind Hugo Lloris and Steve Mandanda, will be able to play any part in the World Cup.

FIFA regulations do not allow for a player to be called up after the start of the tournament but France could appeal for special dispensation should Carrasso be ruled out.

"I cut short my holiday because I got a phone call from (France goalkeeping coach) Bruno Martini," Monaco keeper Ruffier told L'Equipe.

"For the moment I'm waiting but if they need me I'm ready."

Ruffier, 23, is a former under-21 international but has never been called up to the senior squad before.
