Three specialists in children's affairs will be the speakers at a seminar on "Children at Risk" organised by the Social Issues Committee of the National Council of Women on Thursday, November 10 at 6 p.m. at the NCW Centre in Blata l-Bajda.

The seminar will explore the effects of broken marriages on young children, the risks to young pregnant mothers, and how cultural and societal trends can present risks in a success-oriented society. There will be a question and answer session afterwards.

Mass in memory of past NCW members

Fr claude portelli will celebrate Mass on Friday, 4 at 6 p.m.

We would like to take this opportunity to pray in a special way for our loved ones who went to meet the Risen Lord during this year. We offer our heartfelt sympathy to their families and relatives.

There will be tea and biscuits after Mass.

Visit to Capuchin museum

Members and friends are invited to join NCW on Sunday, November 6, at 10.30 a.m. for a visit to the Capuchin museum. The group will then proceed to lunch at De Robertis Restaurant of the Castille Hotel, Valletta. Price: Lm5. Transport to Floriana will be available on request.

Floral demonstration

This year NCW has invited Therese Sullivan to give a floral demonstration with a Christmas theme at the NCW office on December 2 at 6 p.m. Don't miss this opportunity to get some new and refreshing ideas from this talented woman.

Refreshments will be served afterwards and the flower arrangements will be raffled.

Family tea party at Playmobil fun park

Come and enjoy an afternoon in the world of fantasy on Friday December 9 between 4.30 and 6.30 p.m. Price Lm2.50 each (inclusive of use of all facilities and refreshments at the cafeteria.) A 10% discount will be offered at the retail centre during the afternoon, courtesy of Playmobil. Transport is available at a charge.

Reading with a difference

Children aged between 12 and 16 are invited to participate in this innovative course aimed at exploring modern stories in their various forms. Giuliana Peresso, BA (Hons), MA, will be co-ordinating the course.

Among other things, children will enjoy using the Internet and will be given an information pack which they will add to during each session.

Sessions will be held on December 3, 10 and 17 between 10 and 11.30 a.m. The fee is Lm2 per session.

Courses for women

NCW is currently working on setting up more courses targeting women. Courses that should begin shortly include "Thinking skills for women", "English conversation", "Maltese conversation" and "First Aid".
