The Health Committee of the National Council of Women is organising a talk on Lupus by Ian Lockhead, president of the Lupus Support Group.

Lupus is a chronic disease with a variety of symptoms caused by inflammation in one or more parts of the body. It is a complex and baffling condition that can target any tissue or organ of the body, including skin, muscles, joints, blood and blood vessels, lungs, heart, kidneys, and the brain.

The talk will be held at NCW headquarters on Thursday, October 9, at 6.30 p.m. This will be followed by a skin care demonstration by Payot representative Olga Kerr.

Health seminar

A seminar on the value of three ancillary services to women's health: podology, physiotherapy and speech therapy, will be held on Saturday, October 25, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at NCW headquarters. The talks will be delivered by Andrew Sultana, Stephen Lungaro Mifsud and Dr Helen Grech. The seminar will be in Maltese. Registration fee is Lm1. Refreshments will be served.

National Archives tour

Join the Education and Culture Committee of the National Council of Women on Saturday, Ocotber 11, on an exclusive tour of the National Archives, where over 1,000 volumes of records, including passports dating back to the early days of British rule are preserved. Meeting place is at the National Archives, Old Hospital Street, Rabat. Pick-up points:

Bus leaves Mosta at 9 a.m. via Naxxar, San Gwann, St Julian's, Sliema, Hamrun, Fleur-de-Lys, Birkirkara, Balzan and Rabat. Price: Lm4.50 or Lm5 including transport.

Afterwards the group will proceed to the Grotto Tavern where a Maltese platter, French crepes or ice-cream and a drink will be served. For booking contact numbers below.

Course of parental skills

"The Joys and Challenges of Parenting" is the title of a course on parental skills to be organised by the Education Committee of NCW over five sessions from October 10 to November 7 every Friday, from 6 to 7.30 p.m. at NCW Centre, Blata l-Bajda.

The course co-ordinator is Vivien Cassar, MA Educ.

The fee is Lm5 for one person and Lm8 for a couple. Information leaflets will be given at each session and childcare facilities are to be provided during the course.

The aim of this course is to respond to the needs of parents in a flexible and relevant manner by building on their experience, skills and strengths.
