The first in-patients arrived at Mater Dei Hospital this morning after being transferred in a smooth operation from St Luke's Hospital.

Up to 60 patients are to be moved from the old hospital to the new today as five wards become operational. Two are medical wards, another two are surgical and the other takes cardiac medical patients.

The patients are being transported in convoys of ambulances and lifter trucks escorted by police motorcyclists. Traffic policemen have designated a priority lane at Msida to faciliate the move. Relatives have been asked not to visit patients this morning while the transfer is under way.
