A Gozitan shop owner was arrested in a police raid that uncovered 10 unlicensed shotguns and ammunition.

The Gozitan section of the Criminal Investigation Department swooped on Id-Dura Pet Shop in Viani Street, Victoria, at about 7.45pm on Monday after being tipped off about illegal materials stored there.

Ten unregistered firearms were found inside the shop and three registered ones were unaccounted for, the police said. A total of 18,000 cigarettes in 90 packets were found hidden behind a showcase.

A quantity of ammunition, which the police described as “suspicious”, was also seized.

The shop owner is expected to be arraigned.
