I read with interest the article regarding the removal of Magic Kiosk and the restoration of St Anne Square, in Sliema to its former glory but could not help noticing the irony of it all.

While I am sure that such a move will be welcomed by most, readers may be interested to note that on July 22, permission was granted by Mepa regarding application number 06269/06, meaning that almost a whole block of beautiful old houses in Milner Street, corner with Howard Street, Sliema are to be demolished, only to be replaced by some non-descript concrete block.

Restoring the square to its former glory is a good move but we should also ensure that we protect the fine architectural heritage that is being demolished before our very eyes.

When are we ever going to learn?
