Fleur de Lys CFK finally broke their duck against Paola Hibs Candy after beating them in the very last match of the women's league this season in three straight sets.

This match had no bearing on the final standings as Hibs had long been declared champions for the sixth successive year.

CFK, however, fought bravely against their long-standing rivals to lower Hibs' colours for the first time.

Belinda Milton, Annalise Cassar, Daniela Bonnici and Sara El Gazi were all key players for CFK coach Michael Magro. Claire Tonna also had an impressive run of powerful services throughout the match as Hibs looked jaded and unable to react to their opponents' aggressive game.

In the men's league, a depleted SouthEnd played second-placed Valletta Mapei.

SouthEnd were still good enough to win the opening set, with Patrick Felice Pace and Gordon Cachia leading their team's charge. However, coach Franco Debono rallied his troops to fight back and with Robert Balzan and Paul Vella in fine form Mapei shrugged aside their opponents' challenge by winning the next three sets.

Meanwhile, Flyers won a close decider 2-1 against Paola to claim the U-15 girls league title.

Flyers took a comfortable lead during the opening set.

The Paolites' reaction came too late for them to make a comeback.

However, the Paolites showed better play in the second set and led by Amy Guiga and Denise Grech they pulled level to throw the game wide open.

The third set was a hard-fought affair but in the end it was Beverly Tonna's Flyers who won the decisive points and the championship honours.
