For the first time in the Malta Handball Association's eight-year history, a female selection has been named by coach John Falzon in view of the the match against Meath Handball Club, of Ireland, on October 28.

The players in Falzon's squad are: Audrey Vassallo, Brenda Camilleri, Catherine Zammit, Isabelle Camilleri, Roslyn Debattista, Sandra Farrugia, Stephanie Camilleri (Aloysians Veneziani Croissant); Annabelle Borg, Cynthia Borg, Janice Falzon, Louise Micallef, Maria Falzon, Nicolette Zarb Cousin (La Salle Vitality);

Annabelle Xuereb, Catherine Fleri Soler, Johanna Rizzo, Nadia Haber (Kavallieri Megabyte d-hs); and Bernice Cardona (Salesians).

The friendly, organised by the Women's Commission, will form part of a week-long stay by the Irish side in Malta, this being their second time here following the 2002 venture.

A tournament will also be held at St Aloysius College on Sunday, starting at 12.30 p.m. It will be played on a round-robin format and features five teams, namely, Aloysians, Kavallieri, La Salle, Salesians HC and Meath HC.

A junior tournament for girls will also be played today week at the University Sports Complex. All four Maltese teams, together with Meath HC, will take part.

This competition, which starts at 4 p.m., will be followed by Malta's first ever female international match, against Meath HC, at 8 p.m.
