FIFA secretary general Jerome Valcke has confirmed that there will be "additional security measures" in place for England's World Cup last-16 encounter with Germany.

The European heavyweights meet in Bloemfontein tomorrow and FIFA and the tournament's local organising committee are determined that the match will pass off without any trouble, so extra policing numbers will be drafted in.

Valcke said: "We have agreed with the South African Police Service that there will be a number of additional security measures, a few which you will see and a few that you will not. Kicking off at 4pm (local time) makes things easier than a night game as well."

LOC chief executive Danny Jordaan added: "Not just Bloemfontein but the whole country is waiting for this match. We have had a meeting with the police to talk about security and I'm sure fans will go there and have a wonderful time. A huge contest is expected and we look forward to this event. It came earlier on than expected but this is World Cup."
