In the first quarter of 2010 the government collected €10,232,920 in revenue on sales of petrol and €9,617,453 on diesel.

The respective figures for 2009 were €8,428,770 and €8,608,059.

Answering two parliamentary questions by Opposition Whip Joe Mizzi, Finance Minister Tonio Fenech also gave figures of excise duty collected on sales of the two commodities in 2008, 2009 and 2010.

On petrol the government collected €38,571,101, €42,909,812 and €43,356,400. On diesel the revenue amounted to €39,920,772, €39,185,223, and €41,309,759.
