Air Malta recently hosted a meeting organised by the Association of European Airlines (AEA) in Malta for a group of presidents, CEOs and senior executives from major European airlines to discuss the implications and consequences of EU enlargement.

The meeting was opened by Air Malta chairman Louis Grech.

Ulrich Schulte-Strathaus, secretary general of the AEA, who chaired the workshop, said it was a precious opportunity for air carriers to exchange views with the European Commission on a wide spectrum of subjects ranging from the more general effects of liberalisation, including competition and external relations policy, to particular topics such as passenger rights, environmental protection, safety and security and the Single European Sky.

The meeting was also addressed by Ludolf Van Hasselt, head of unit, Air Transport Agreements at the directorate general for energy and transport at the European Commission.

The participating airlines were Aer Lingus, Air France, Air Malta, Alitalia, British Airways, Croatia Airlines, CSA (Czech Airlines), Cyprus Airways, Finnair, JAT (Yugolsav Airlines), Malev, TAP Air Portugal and Tarom.
