Young people are invited to join in the 10th anniversary celebrations of the European Union's Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) and the euro by participating in the Eurocompetition.

The Eurocompetition is an online poster design competition on the theme 10 Years Of EMU And The Euro aimed at students between 10 and 14 years of age living in the euro area and Slovakia. The posters entered for the competition will be uploaded on the online gallery at www.eurocompetition.net.

The posters should express the participants' thoughts on what the euro has done for European citizens, what the benefits of the monetary union are and what they think the future holds for the single currency. The poster should combine visual expression - drawing, painting, photograph, digital art, etc - with a short, clear message. All entries must be associated with a school and submitted through the Eurocompetition website www.eurocompetition.net.

The competition is open until December 31. An expert jury will select 16 national winners, who will each be awarded with a digital camera and the chance to have their poster printed and displayed by the European Commission at an exhibition in Brussels. From these 16 an overall winner will be selected. Besides the personal digital cameras for each national winner, the overall winner will be invited to Brussels where his/her poster will be presented at a press event in the presence of the Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs. The project is being managed by European Schoolnet (www.eun.org) on behalf of the European Commission's Directorate General for Economic and Financial Affairs (http://ec.europa.eu/economy_finance).
