The Ta’ Pinu Sanctuary will be given an EU grant to restore Dar Karmni Grima museum as well as carrying out restoration work on 12 paintings by Joseph Briffa.

The EU will provide 85 per cent of the €400,000 project following an application under the Cohesion Funds for Malta 2007-2013 entitled ‘Discovering cultural and religious tourism in Gozo’.

The restoration works at the museum will include minor structural and conversion works, new electrical installation, an audio-visual presentation on the life of Karmni Grima, who says she witnessed an apparition of the Virgin Mary, the installation of a lift to make the museum accessible to all and the installation of photovoltaic cells to improve the energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions.

The project will also see the restoration of 12 paintings depicting the life of the Virgin Mary by Briffa at Ta’ Pinu sanctuary. The restoration will be carried out by Fr Charles Vella and Joanna Hili Micallef.
