An Italian mechanical engineer got two people to hold his Maltese landlady at gun point and rob her, a court was told this morning.

Oliviero Filisetti, a 59-year-old mechanical engineer, allegedly commissioned personal trainer Mariella aka Michael Chircop St John, 41, and taxi driver Matthew Joseph Sciberras, 29, to hold up Joanna Beirne, steal her car and mobile phone and to hold her at gun point.

Mr Filisetti allegedly used to rent an apartment from Ms Beirne and became infatuated with her.

All three pleaded not guilty.

Magistrate Michael Mallia after considering that Mr Filisetti has been coming to Malta since 1991, granted him bail against a deposit of €2,000 and a personal guarantee of €5,000.

Mariella Chircop St John was granted bail against a deposit of €500 and a personal guarantee of €2,000 while Mr Sciberras was granted bail against a personal guarantee of €2,000.
