Nicholas Mervin Britton, 39 of St Paul's Bay was today handed a six month jail term suspended for a year and fined €200 after pleading guilty to assaulting policemen yesterday at around 4.15 a.m. in Parades Street, St Paul's Bay.

He also admitted slightly injuring two officers, threatening another two, driving dangerously under the influence of alcohol and breaching the peace.

He was also banned from driving for three months.

The court was told that Mr Britton had been driving a rented car along Parades Street when his car overturned, smashing into another two vehicles. When the police went to investigate, they found him outside his car, and he started threatening the officers.

A scuffle broke out when the officers tried to arrest him.
