Electrofix Hibs are the new leaders of the Women’s League after beating Caffe Moak Luxol to move above their title rivals as they have scored more points in direct encounters.

PAVI Depiro moved to third after seeing off Gżira Athleta while Starlites Sports Experience made it a double over Floriana.

In the top-of-the-table match, Hibs avenged their Louis Borg Cup defeat with a resounding 66-42 victory.

Hibs profited from the absence of Luxol pivot Joselle Borg Cardona, injured, with the towering Josephine Grima leading their charge. Grima finished as the game’s best scorer with 22 points.

Hibs led from the opening minutes to go 15-8 ahead by the end of the first quarter.

After a balanced period, the Paolites regained the upperhand before the interval to increase their lead to 38-21.

Luxol improved at the start of the third quarter but, after closing the gap to 10 points, 38-28, were pegged back after conceding 10 consecutive points in the final minutes.

Leading 53-33, Hibs administered their advantage until the final whistle.

Depiro stunned Gżira to regain third spot in the league. After leading 17-11 at the end of the first session, Depiro went on to change ends 30-21 in front.

Gżira’s best moment arrived after the fifth minute of the third quarter as they reduced the gap to a single point, 38-37, but Depiro quickly regrouped to run out 55-45 winners.

Floriana are still winless after going down to Starlites, 34-26. After Starlites had enjoyed the better of the opening quarter, 17-2, Floriana improved to cut the leeway to nine points at half-time, 22-13.

Floriana’s recovery continued after the interval as they moved to within a point of Starlites, 22-21, but the latter recovered to win by an eight-point margin.
