With refence to Steve Compagno's letter on ways to raise animal awareness (August 5), students of Lily of the Valley Girls' Secondary School, in Mosta, have been working, this past scholastic year, on an interesting project.

Our school enjoys an hour and a half of extra curricular activities, one of which is an Animal Awareness Club.

Students meet once a week and they learn and discuss their pets and other animals. The club, with the help of the SPCA, has come up with a special programme of activities to inform and interest these students.

We have visited the home in Floriana and with their encouragement we decided as a club to sponsor a dog.

The group of students have very willingly given up some of their pocket money and time to foster a dog.

They have even got its picture printed on tee-shirts.

The SPCA sends the girls regular updates with their newsletter, informing them of what's going on and using it for animal education purposes.

There is always something new to learn about animals and joining up with like- minded people will fuel their interest!
