I was pleased to read Saviour Sam Agius's letter (April 3) on cyclists. He wrote: "if a bicycle is equipped with all the proper lights and reflectors..." But I have lived here for years and have only seen about three bicycles with lights. Last week, I drove into Mosta at night and three young men swept into the main road on black bikes, wearing black clothes and with no lights or even reflectors. On my way home, a young lad of about 11 was riding up the hill, dressed in black, on a black bike and with no lights or reflectors.

A friend said it is not necessary to have lights on a bicycle but that is not what the Highway Code says. The sooner children, and all bicycle-riders, are penalised for such criminal negligence the safer all users of the roads will be.
