Clint Xuereb, 24, from Naxxar, was today fined €6,000 and banned from driving for three years after he was found guilty of the involuntary homicide of 18-year-old Yana Xerri.

Ms Xerri had been travelling in a car which veered off the Coast Road and smashed into the rocks at Baħar Iċ-Cagħaq on November 27, 2010.

Mr Xuereb had been driving the car.

The court found that he was under the influence of drink.

The accident happened at around 4.45 a.m. when the driver lost control of the car, which crossed the carriageway, hit a road sign and crashed onto the rocks about a storey below.

Ms Xerri was thrown out of the passenger window and was found lying on the ground close to the car .
