One of the arguments put forward in the battle between Windows-based PCs and Apple Mac computers is that the latter are a bit pricey compared to the former, even though there is not questioning the performance of the Macs.

However, SG Solutions, the authorised representative of Apple in Malta, has launched a new computer leasing scheme that makes Apple desktop and notebook computers much more affordable.

For a simple monthly fee a user can get the machine of choice from the latest iMac, MacBook and Mac Pro ranges with full warranty cover plus insurance, so that if the machine develops a genuine fault it is replaced at no cost for the user. The lease term is 36 months and once your lease is up the computer become fully owned by the user. Signing up is easy and there's no need of a down payment, though financial terms and conditions apply.

The lease of an iMac starts from €38.74 per month while a MacBook Pro notebook starts from €62.87 per month. An Apple cinema display can also be leased for just €20.71 per month. All prices are inclusive of Vat and eco tax.

"There are several advantages that one can consider with leasing," Adrian Micallef, brand manager at SG Solutions told i-Tech. He expressed his satisfaction at the overwhelming response to the scheme in the first few days following its launch. "One can plan and manage better the costs as he/she will know the payments over a set period of time. There is no deposit and one gets the equipment without any kind of down payment. And at the end of the leasing the computer is yours to keep."

Computer users who want to avail themselves of this scheme can visit the Apple iCentre in Gasan Street, Pieta` and produce their ID card. They will be asked to fill in a confidential credit application form. Credit approval may take a few working days. Once approved, the lease is awarded. There is no closing date yet for this scheme.

"Both home users and especially companies will benefit from this since technology is moving at a very fast pace. Many computer users feel that their equipment needs to be upgraded after three years cause of this. Leasing, in this case, can be the most cost-effective solution. Another point that will influence more companies is the depreciation factor as this is solved through leasing. Leasing might be the best way to procure equipment in the present economic climate," added Mr Micallef.
